Principal’s Message

Dear Lenicia B. Weemes Learning Community,

Welcome to the 2025–2026 school year at Lenicia B. Weemes Elementary School!

I am honored to serve as principal and proud to lead a school community that is committed to excellence, equity, and student success. At Weemes, we believe that every student can learn, grow, and thrive when given the right opportunities and support.

This year, we will continue our focus on building strong foundations in literacy, numeracy, and writing, while nurturing the social-emotional well-being of our students. Our staff is dedicated to providing high-quality, standards-based instruction and creating a safe, supportive environment where every child feels seen and valued.

We are proud of our ongoing partnership with USC, which brings programs like Kinder2College, Troy Camp, Mission Science, and the Neighborhood Academic Initiative (NAI) to our students. In addition, we offer enriching afterschool opportunities such as Student Council, Dance, UCLA Drum Circle, and Beyond the Bell.

Family and community engagement remain central to our success. I invite all parents and guardians to stay connected and involved by joining school councils, attending events, and sharing your voice. Communication will continue through our monthly bulletin, school website, flyers, and ConnectEd calls.

Together, we will make this a joyful, successful, and inspiring school year for all.

If you have any questions or would like to connect, feel free to reach me at [email protected] or call our main office at (323) 733-9186.

With pride and partnership,

Mercedes Pineda
Principal

Fundraising:

Our school will use fundraising proceeds to celebrate students who demonstrate perfect attendance, strong citizenship, and academic achievement. We plan to purchase school spirit gear—such as t-shirts and hoodies—to reward students during recognition events and build school pride.

Encouraging students to meet high expectations now lays the foundation for future success. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, individuals with a high school diploma earn more and are less likely to be unemployed than those without one. While earning potential and job stability aren't the only reasons to support student success, they are two important ones.

As always, we look forward to working together to ensure the best education for your child.

☕ Coffee with the Principal

2025–2026 School Year

We invite you to join us each month for Coffee with the Principal—a time to connect, ask questions, share ideas, and stay informed about what’s happening at Weemes Elementary.

Each session will focus on a specific topic, selected based on parent input and school priorities. Your voice matters, and these meetings are a great way to stay involved in our school community.

This year, all meetings will be held in person in the Parent Center at 8:20 a.m.
